Menurut pengamatan saya, buku catur yang paling banyak dipakai oleh para pecatur di tanah air adalah Seri INFORMATOR atau Chess Informant terbitan Sahovski Yugoslavia. Seperti pernah saya posting sebelumnya dalam blog ini, selain edisi cetak Sahovski mengeluarkan edisi file digital. Yang terbaru adalah Chess Informant No.100. Edisi digitalnya dikeluarkan dalam beberapa format, Chess Informant Format (Chess Informant 88 Trademark Sections) yang mirip dengan edisi cetaknya dan edisi PGN (portable game notation) untuk dibaca di sebarang program catur. Software untuk membaca produk-produk Sahovski ini (tidak hanya informator, tapi juga termasuk seri ECO, Monograph, dan lain-lain) menggunakan program khusus yang juga dikeluarkan oleh Sahovski yaitu Chess Informant Reader dan Chess Informant Expert.
Seperti namanya, Chess Informant Reader digunakan hanya untuk membaca dokumen digital (buku elektronik) terbitan Sahovski ini, sedangkan Chess Informant Expert selain bisa membaca juga memiliki fitur MENGOLAH yang canggih, seperti Chessbase. Yang paling saya sukai dari fitur di Chess Informant Expert adalah fitur untuk membuat tabel/buku ECO sendiri. Tentu teman-teman sudah tidak asing lagi dengan format tabel dari buku-buku opening semacam ECO/BCO/NCO/MCO yang sangat praktis layoutnya sehingga memudahkan kita mempelajari opening catur. Kita buka program manajemen database catur seperti Chessbase, terus kita pilih opening yang kita sukai, kemudian buat/ambil database catur dari koleksi database yang dimiliki, kemudian import ke Chess Informat Expert, terakhir CREATE ECO TABEL. Dan siap untuk dipelajari. Siip.
Melihat fitur-fiturnya memang tidak selengkap yang dimiliki oleh Chessbase. Tapi CIR & CIE ini bisa dijadikan alternatif sebagai manajemen database catur, utamanya data catur dari buku-buku terbitan Sahovski, agar memiliki cita rasa seperti membaca buku aslinya. Seperti bisa dibaca di sutus resmi Sahovski : http://www.sahovski.com, mereka menerbitkan buku-buku catur bermutu yang telah lama menjadi acuan bagi para pecatur kelas dunia.
